REEL-TO-REAL: ‘Scarface’s’ Alejandro Sosa Was Based On A Real Person (VIDEO)

Alejandro Sosa is the chief nemesis of Tony Montana in Brian de Palma’s Scarface. In the film he is the source of Tony’s cocaine, a Bolivian landowner with ties to the Bolivian and American governments. Turns out, screenwriter Oliver Stone was inspired by a real person when he created the fictional Sosa (played by Paul Shenar). The inspiration was a man named Roberto Suarez, a man more sinister, more powerful, and more interesting than even Alejandro Sosa of Scarface.
