November 12. 2024 — Ten days ago, the Philadelphia mafia threw a surprise 60th birthday party for alleged mob soldier Anthony Borgesi, the little brother of Bruno-Scarfo crime family boss George (Georgie Boy) Borgesi. Representatives from a number of different East Coast mob families and factions were in attendance as well. A photo of Lucchese mob soldier Joseph (Little Joe) Perna and former Philly mafia underboss John (Johnny Chang) Ciancaglini all dressed up and doing the town at the AB B-Day bash made the rounds on social media last week. The Perna crew, based in New Jersey, has long liaisoned with the Bruno-Scarfo clan on behalf of Lucchese administration. Members of the Philly mob’s New England branch were there, led by reputed skipper Shawn Vetere, the Bruno-Scarfo syndicate’s alleged go-to man for activity in Boston, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

“Georgie Boy” Borgesi, 61, became acting boss of the Philly mob in August 2019 and upped to official-don status late last year, per sources, FBI intelligence and Gangland News. Since the promotion, Anthony Borgesi, who was reportedly “made” into the Bruno-Scarfo organization at a recorded-for-FBI-posterity induction ceremony in October 2015, has benefited from an alleged increase in responsibilities and overall LCN esteem. Some claim he’s destined to be a capo one day soon.

The Borgesi brothers are the nephews of retired acting don Joseph (Uncle Joe) Ligambi and Anthony Borgesi began his ascent in the Philly mob in the late 1990s by acting as a driver and bodyguard for Ligambi. More recently, he’s earned trust and additional bonafides by being a go-between for Bruno-Scarfo family affairs in New England and chauffeuring his brother and other family leaders to and from New York City for meetings. Georgie Borgesi established the New England crew for Philly mob — back when he was consigliere –, traveling to Boston’s North End to “make” a batch of soldiers, including Vetere, in a 1998 ceremony., according to federal court records.
