Notorious NYC Jewish Mob Affiliate, Gotti Crew Member Mark Reiter Dies, Cashes In Chips From Behind Bars
September 20, 2024 — Imprisoned high-ranking Gambino mob associate Mark Reiter died of cancer this week, less than a month removed from a U. S. District Court Judge denying a motion for a compassionate release so he could live out his final days free surrounded by family and friends. The 76 year old Reiter spent his last 36 years locked up as a guest of the government for narcotics trafficking and ordering a trio of drug world-related murders. During the 1980s, Reiter belonged to Gambino Mob Don John Gotti’s inner circle , working directly for Gotti’s best friend, Gambino Mob capo Angelo (Quack Quack) Ruggerio in the wholesale heroin and cocaine trade. Earlier in the decade , Reiter became a source of narcotics for African-American crime lords in Harlem , more specifically, an incarcerated, soon-to-flip Nicky Barnes.
One of Reiter’s homicide convictions was tied to the December 1982 gangland slaying of Barnes’ girlfriend, Beverly (Shamecca) Ash, who Barnes accused fellow Harlem dope bosses of seducing when he was away doing prison time in a situation that prompted his historic cooperation deal a year later. An unidentified former FBI agent told authorities in the federal justice system in 2022 he worried if Reiter ever got out of the can, his personal safety would be in jeopardy.
